Antigone

Dates:
27 - 30 March 2024
Space:

WTG presents Sophocles’ Antigone, a hard-hitting drama exploring the themes of misuse of power and youth rising up to challenge the establishment.

Antigone is outraged when King Creon refuses permission for her dead brother to be buried. With youthful defiance, Antigone goes ahead.  This leads to her downfall as Creon, desperate to assert his authority, condemns her to be buried alive, setting in motion a bloody circle of death.

WTG is staging this production in the 1990s, amid fame culture and the digital media explosion. The play’s themes are timeless and today’s audiences will recognise these as relatable contemporary issues.
