A heron returns to an urban pond; a swan nests under a railway bridge; a small child looks for treasure on the muddy banks of a city river. What magic does each place have to make us pause, even for a while?
My painting explores how human and animal life intertwines with setting; the places that hold us spellbound or simply safe. Some are in response to moments, real or imagined, that seem essential to capture in memory and paint.
With its roots in East Anglia, my work reflects the wide skies, woods, river valleys and coast of Norfolk and Suffolk. More recently settled in Windsor, though, the urban and rural reaches of the Thames have taken my painting in new directions.
